FBI Citizens' Academy

The Citizens’ Academy is a stimulating six-week program that gives business, religious, civic and community leaders an inside look at the FBI.  Each spring the Anchorage Division hosts a Citizens’ Academy.  Candidates are nominated by FBI employees and former Citizens’ Academy graduates. Participants are selected by the Special Agent in Charge of the Anchorage Division.  Each session is conducted by FBI executives, senior Special Agents and program managers.  Participants are involved in thought-provoking discussions and are afforded an inside look at the workings of the FBI and its extensive programs.  Past graduates have included a former Governor of Alaska,  the President and CEO of a telephone company, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the Deans of the university’s College of Business and Public Policy and Engineering, and the owner of a famous local restaurant.

During each nightly session, investigative program overviews are presented:  presentations are followed by interactive discussions regarding the program and corresponding current events.  Included in the six week academy is insight into the FBI’s history, jurisdiction, forensic capabilities, and extensive training programs.  In addition, participants experience hands-on firearms training and use of deadly force, and evidence crime scene collection.

After graduation, participants remain involved through special events and are informed about current law enforcement issues during Alumni events. Please complete the enrollment form if you would like to join the Alumni Association.

Citizens' Academies are held in October. All nomination documents will be posted before the class begins.

In the future, alumni will be qualified to join Alaska's FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association for additional training and networking activities.
